Sixty-eight Rooms by Marianne Malone

with one comment

Sixty-eight Rooms was about a girl, Ruthie, living in Chicago with her best friend, Jack. One day they go on a field trip with their class and they go to the museum. The museum was pretty cool but what everyone liked the most was the miniature rooms.  There were sixty-eight of these miniature rooms and Ruthie was completely captivated by them because she had never seen them before.  They were so finely decorated and it looked like only the smallest hands could carve them.  And this, Ruthie feels, is the first time anything her life is exciting.  But this is only the beginning.

When Jack gets a private tour of the backs  of the rooms he finds a special key that enables Ruthie to shrink down and be almost invisible. But why does it only work for Ruthie and not jack. When they travel into the miniature rooms they discover the reason…

Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson

without comments

Forge was a sequel to the book Chains so I suggest reading that before you read this. But If you have already read Chains then you probably know that the book ended with Isabel and Curzon escaping from prison.  You may also know that Isabel’s priority was to find her sister who was in bondage in Charleston. Curzon had other plans. He wanted to start a new life and maybe even join the army. They had a major fight and went their separate ways. But the problem was, Isabel took the money.

So Curzon is walking around with no money, in the woods when he saves a patriot boy’s life.  He also gains the trust of the boy’s uncle who happens to be the Sargent of the army.  So Curzon gets to join the army as planned.  But when his old master visits the camp site Curzon is afraid he’ll recognize him and take him back, but instead he invites him to dinner. Curzon thinks he is going to eat, but when the party guest throw their coats at Curzon instead of the hooks by the door he knows something is not right.  Later Master Bellingham, his old master, tells him that he has committed a terrible crime.  See before all this happened Master Bellingham promised him freedom when his first enlistment expired but Bellingham didn’t like that and he took Curzon as his own slave.  But in fact Curzon had committed a crime. He had enlisted for the army as a free man when Bellingham was only playing a joke.

Red Kayak by Pracilla Cummings

without comments

The Red Kayak was about a boy that lived in the Chesapeake bay area.  His father was a crabber and a boat maker. One day he sees his rich neighbors in a kayak on a stormy day. He and some of his friends don’t bother to warn them that it is not the best day to be kayaking. Later in the day he gets a report that his neighbors were in a boat accident and couldn’t be found. Now this was serious because this time of year the water could kill you because of how cold it was.He can’t help but feel guilty about the whole thing for not saying anything when he saw them in the boat and his guilt only increases when the youngest son of his rich neighbor dies because of the kayak accident.  But he realizes that it is not entirely his fault. Actually it isn’t at all his fault.   He notices, after working for the rich neighbors, that the kayak had multiple holes in it.  He wonders what demon would do such a thing. This situation requires a good lawyer and a supreme court judge.

Middle School Is Worst Than Meatloaf

without comments

This book is about a 7th grader named Ginny. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy a quick read, and who love to read little notes. I would definitely NOT recommend this book to people who like to read long books and who like a real mystery. Overall, this book was a good choice for me, because I like to look through notes that people put together.

I hope you enjoy this!

The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt

without comments

I really enjoyed this book because it was on that many people can relate to.  I loved reading a bout this boy named Holling living in the 60s during the Vietnam war.  Every one seems to have a relative in this war and everyone seems to be dying.  On the teenager side of this, they are hippies fighting for peace and agreeing with MLK and Bobby Kenedy and others like that.  Here is a quote from the book:

“…but I prayed that no atomic bomb would ever drop on Camillo Junior High…I prayed for Lieutenant Baker, missing in action somewhere in the jungles of Vietnam near Khesahn. I prayed for Danny Hupfer, sweating it out in Hebrew school right then. I prayed for my sister, driving in a yellow bug toward California-or maybe she was there already, trying to find herself.  And I hoped it was okay to pray for a bunch of things with one candle.” (page 225)

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

A Room with a Zoo by Jules Feiffer

without comments

I do not want to read this book because it sounds like there is no climax or anything exciting that happens. The only thing that sounds like it would be interesting would be the animals she collects. Also, in general, I do not like most animal books.

Where the Sreets Had a Name by Randa Abdul-Fattah

This book sounds interesting because it sounds exciting, and it doesn’t sound boring or slow. Also, it takes place in a nother country, which is another element that makes it seem more interesting. The story is about traveling under many restrictions, and challenges are also interesting.
